Apple CEO John Ternus Plans Overhaul to Speed Up Product Releases

Apple CEO John Ternus is considering a significant overhaul of the company aimed at improving its engineering focus, increasing the frequency of product releases, and creating a more agile organization, according to a Bloomberg News report.

Ternus, who took over as CEO this fall after a long career at Apple, is reportedly exploring changes that could move the company away from its traditional spring and fall product launch cycles. The proposed restructuring also includes reducing some middle-management positions to foster closer communication between engineers and top executives.

These early ideas come as Apple faces increasing competition, particularly in the artificial intelligence sector. Ternus has indicated internally that the company needs to innovate more rapidly and embrace experimentation to maintain its competitive edge.

Cost-cutting measures are also reportedly underway. Ternus is said to be investigating new revenue streams and ways to maximize the value derived from Apple's existing product lines. The company also recently entered the foldable smartphone market with its new $1,999 Duo iPhone.

Bloomberg News also reported that Apple's hardware engineering division has begun making reductions in engineering program-management roles, affecting several program managers and directors. Significant cuts have also been made in teams working on the Siri digital assistant, the Vision Pro headset, and AI-related software engineering, some of which were linked to employee performance.

Ternus is also reportedly examining how artificial intelligence can be used to accelerate product development and automate tasks previously handled by employees.
