Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown plans to accept a plea deal on an attempted murder charge in Miami that will not include prison time, his attorney announced Wednesday.
Brown is scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday to finalize the agreement. The 38-year-old faced a potential sentence of up to 30 years if convicted of the current charge.
According to an arrest warrant, Brown is accused of firing two shots at a man after a physical altercation on May 16, 2025. The alleged victim told investigators that one of the bullets grazed his neck.
Brown, who has maintained his innocence on social media, claiming he was acting in self-defense against an attack and attempts to steal his jewelry, expressed that the decision to accept the plea was difficult. "Antonio believes in his innocence. He believes strongly in his Stand Your Ground defense, and he believes he would ultimately prevail at trial," his defense attorney Mark Eiglarsh said in a statement. "But when prosecutors put an offer on the table that transforms a potential decades-long prison sentence into a significantly reduced charge and probation, there was simply no way he could reasonably turn it down."
Brown, an All-Pro wide receiver during his 12-year NFL career, last played in 2021 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with whom he won a Super Bowl. He also spent a significant portion of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Brown was extradited from Dubai in November 2025, where he has business interests, following the issuance of the arrest warrant in June 2025. He has encountered legal issues previously, including accusations of battery, domestic violence charges, and failure to pay child support.
