Police confronted hundreds of anti-migrant protesters in Portsmouth on Sunday, as demonstrators blocked roads and attempted to impede the movement of approximately 140 migrants. These migrants had been rescued from a single dinghy in the English Channel and brought ashore in the city.
Hampshire Police issued a dispersal order, warning that individuals failing to comply could face arrest, and urged the public to avoid the Eastney Landing ferry port area where the migrants were disembarked. The protesters, many of whom wore masks and dark clothing, were described by the government as engaging in "intimidating and thuggish behaviour."
