Anti-Migrant Activist Denied Bail in UK Channel Boat Damage Case
Daniel Thomas, facing criminal damage charges, will remain in custody pending trial.
An anti-migrant activist known as Daniel Thomas has been denied bail in connection with the alleged slashing of a dinghy in the English Channel. Thomas appeared via videolink at Portsmouth Crown Court, where he faces a charge of criminal damage. A video appears to show him damaging the boat with a knife.
Thomas, 37, is also charged with failing to disclose the PIN to his phone. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at the same court on November 12. A provisional trial date has been set for March 1.
During the hearing, Thomas, who was wearing a grey t-shirt and holding a Bible, did not enter a plea. He had previously pleaded not guilty to both charges at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court. The court withheld his address at a previous hearing.
