Anti-ICE Protesters Clash with Police Outside NYC Hospital
Demonstrators pushed barricades against officers while a political candidate urged de-escalation near where a federal agent shot an undocumented migrant.
Anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protesters clashed with the New York Police Department (NYPD) outside a Bronx hospital Thursday night, following a shooting incident involving a federal agent. The protest, which drew hundreds of demonstrators, saw participants ramming metal barricades against officers.
During the confrontation, Darializa Avila Chevalier, identified as a presumptive New York congresswoman and a candidate endorsed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, was seen yelling at the officers to "stop escalating." Video footage captured the demonstrators pushing barricades and shouting phrases such as "our streets!" and "Is that all you've f–king got?"
At one point, Avila-Chevalier appeared to attempt to calm some demonstrators before turning her attention to a supervising officer, urging them to de-escalate the situation. Another video circulating showed Avila-Chevalier being knocked down amidst a melee between police and protesters.
The clashes occurred outside NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where an undocumented migrant was being treated after being shot by an ICE agent during an operation in the Bronx. Federal authorities claim the individual accelerated a vehicle towards ICE agents, using the car as a weapon. The incident has prompted calls for a full and independent investigation from some political figures.
