Anthony Edwards Out Up to Two Months Following Knee Surgery
Minnesota Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, sidelining him for an estimated eight weeks.
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is expected to miss up to two months after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday night. The injury adds to a growing list of significant player absences early in the NBA season.
Edwards, 25, had dealt with knee issues in both legs last season. At the end of the previous year, he played through right knee inflammation and a bone bruise with hyperextension in his left knee.
He was initially listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Golden State Warriors due to the right knee issue, which appeared to bother him during a weekend victory over the Toronto Raptors. Prior to the surgery announcement, Edwards played in Monday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring a team-high 47 points in a 127-125 overtime win.
Despite the knee injury, Edwards had averaged 33.3 points per game in 33.8 minutes through the first four games of the current season. The Timberwolves had started the season with a 3-1 record.
Edwards, a four-time All-Star, will be a significant loss for the Timberwolves as they aim to contend in the Western Conference. His absence comes as other teams are also grappling with key injuries. The Oklahoma City Thunder have lost Jalen Williams to a dislocated left ankle and fractured fibula, and Cason Wallace to a torn left labrum, with both players potentially out for the season. Additionally, Kawhi Leonard of the Toronto Raptors is sidelined indefinitely with a swollen knee.
