Annual Seaside Highland Games Draw Thousands to Ventura County

The Ventura County Fairgrounds transformed into a Scottish village this past weekend for the 22nd annual Seaside Highland Games. The event, which ran through Sunday, attracted visitors for a celebration of Scottish culture.

The festival featured three stages with live entertainment, including Celtic rock and folk bands. Attendees also witnessed competitions in Highland dancing, bagpiping, and drumming, drawing participants from across the region.

Athletic events showcased traditional feats of strength, such as the caber toss and hammer throw. Clan societies like Munro, Gunn, and the Innis Societies of North America hosted informational booths, allowing visitors to explore their heritage and genealogy.

The weekend commenced on Friday evening with a Scottish Evening gala, which included a whisky tasting and a buffet dinner. "We love to enjoy the Seaside games and everyone who walks by we say hay because we are the Hay Clan," said attendee Jeana Weatherland.

The event's website highlighted attractions such as "The Harp Glen" and a World War II military encampment, promising educational and enjoyable experiences for families.
