Anne Hathaway Chooses Knicks Championship Over Second Oscar
The actress declared her priority in a game on 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.'
Anne Hathaway has publicly declared her fervent support for the New York Knicks, choosing a potential second championship for the team over another Academy Award win.
During a segment on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Wednesday, Hathaway participated in a game called "Best Thing Ever." The game required her to choose between two options, deciding which she would keep and which she would discard forever.
Fallon presented Hathaway with two cards: one labeled "Another Oscar Win" and the other, "Another Knicks Championship." The New York native, a self-proclaimed lifelong Knicks fan, promptly set aside the card bearing the Oscar trophy, eliciting applause and cheers from the studio audience. "The way my nervous system is reacting to that choice is really intense," Hathaway remarked with a laugh.
The Knicks recently secured their first championship in 53 years, defeating the Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals. Hathaway previously won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2013 for her role in "Les Misérables."
Earlier in the program, Fallon gifted Hathaway a signed jersey from Knicks player OG Anunoby. "Are you serious? Oh my god!" Hathaway exclaimed before putting on the jersey. The team also presented Hathaway, who is pregnant, with a gift basket for her baby, accompanied by a card signed by Anunoby.
This is not the first time Hathaway has expressed her strong connection to the Knicks and Anunoby. During an appearance on "The Tonight Show" in April, she mentioned considering wearing an Anunoby jersey to games to show her support and belief in the team's potential. Following that appearance, Anunoby scored 29 points in a pivotal Game 6 victory against the Hawks, helping the Knicks advance in the playoffs. Many attributed Hathaway's presence as a good luck charm.
Hathaway's fandom for Anunoby reportedly stems from an incident in 2024 when the player nearly collided with her and her son while they were seated courtside at a game at Madison Square Garden.
