Anne Hathaway Apologizes for Red Carpet Photographer Directives

Anne Hathaway has apologized for a moment on the red carpet where she directed photographers, describing the incident as "horrifying." The actress, who is heavily pregnant with her third child, issued the apology during an appearance on "The Tonight Show." A clip of Hathaway ordering snappers at the New York premiere of her new movie "Verity" went viral.

During the event, Hathaway, 43, was seen enthusiastically directing photographers while posing with co-stars Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett. Host Jimmy Fallon showed Hathaway the viral video, prompting the actress to call it "the stuff of nightmares." Hathaway explained that she felt she went into "mom mode" and was trying to be helpful amidst a crowded red carpet where photographers were becoming agitated.

"I was doing it because I was trying to get them their picture but when I was done I was like 'but there's also video!'" Hathaway said, adding that she immediately felt embarrassed. "I apologise everybody. That girl came out to play last night. Actually, she didn't come to play. She came for business," she added with a laugh.

The viral clip also showed Johnson appearing impatient, doing a small jig while Hathaway gave instructions. Hathaway then directed the photographers to start from the left and move across. Johnson then stated, "Then I'm going to leave."

Hathaway and Johnson star in "Verity," an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel. Hathaway plays author Verity Crawford, while Johnson portrays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to complete the author's series after an accident incapaculates her. Josh Hartnett plays Verity's husband, Jeremy Crawford. The film's plot involves Lowen discovering a disturbing manuscript at the couple's estate that hints at dark secrets.

The film "Verity" opened at the top of the U.S. box office during its first weekend, grossing $32.6 million.
