Anne Hathaway Apologizes for 'Horrifying' Red Carpet Behavior
The actress described her viral moment ordering photographers as 'the stuff of nightmares.'
Anne Hathaway has apologized for her "horrifying" red carpet moment at the premiere of "Verity," during which she instructed photographers on how to take pictures of her and her co-stars.
The actress recounted the incident on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," calling the viral video clip "the stuff of nightmares." Hathaway, who is pregnant with her third child, explained that she was trying to be helpful on the red carpet.
"There were so many of us and the photographers were getting upset, and the vibe was changing," Hathaway said. She described her actions as going into "mom mode by way of chorus line." In the footage, she can be heard directing the photographers, saying, "We are going to start from the left and then we can make our way that way." Co-star Dakota Johnson quipped in response, "And then I’m gonna leave."
Hathaway told Fallon that as soon as she finished giving instructions, her immediate thought was, "Oh, no." She apologized to the photographers, adding, "That girl came out to play last night. Actually, she didn’t come to play. She came for business."
Social media users reacted to the video, with some dubbing Hathaway a "red carpet traffic cop."
Hathaway attended the "Verity" premiere in New York, showcasing her baby bump in a strapless Prabal Gurung gown. She is expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman, joining their sons Jonathan and Jack. Hathaway also shared on "The Tonight Show" that her primary pregnancy symptoms have included acne and a heightened sense of smell.
