Anna Faris Responds to Chuck Lorre's Memoir Comments on Her 'Mom' Casting

Anna Faris has responded to comments made by former "Mom" co-creator Chuck Lorre in his new memoir, "Sitcom," stating that his remarks about her casting on the show "hurts."

In his book, Lorre wrote that he initially had reservations about casting Faris as Christy Plunkett, the lead role on the CBS sitcom. He stated that he wasn't sure she would be "appropriate" for the material, citing concerns that mirrored his difficult working relationship with Charlie Sheen on "Two and a Half Men."

Faris, who starred on "Mom" for seven seasons before departing prior to its final season, shared her reaction on Instagram. "Yikes. Yes, I read a few things. I really didn’t see that coming," she wrote. "Of course it hurts. Chuck gave me a job I loved, and for seven years I never took a day of it for granted. I’m proud of what we made together, and nothing changes how grateful I am for those people and those years."

Lorre's memoir also touched on his later reconsideration of casting Faris, after reflecting on the Sheen situation. He wrote, "Someone’s personal life is none of my business. The mom in ‘Mom’ would be, and should be, Anna Faris."

Faris also shared that she has been sober for a year and a half, noting the irony of having been on a show about recovery while simultaneously experiencing it herself. She concluded her statement with a message of hope, saying, "Now I’m healthy, I’m working, and I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time. If anyone reading this is where I was, I hope that’s useful. It gets better. I’m proof."

"Mom" aired from 2013 to 2021.
