The Los Angeles Angels continued their player exodus ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline by sending left-handed pitcher Reid Detmers to the Chicago Cubs on Monday. The Angels received three prospects in return: infielder Jefferson Rojas, the Cubs’ No. 2 overall prospect; right-handed pitcher Dominick Reid, the Cubs’ No. 13 overall prospect; and right-handed pitcher Mason McGwire, Chicago’s No. 18 overall prospect.
Detmers, 27, made his debut with the Angels in 2021 after being selected with the No. 10 pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. This season, he posted a 3-7 record with a 4.03 earned run average and recorded 145 strikeouts. Over his career with the Angels, Detmers accumulated a 24-38 record, a 4.61 ERA, and 643 strikeouts in 574.1 innings pitched.
His most notable career achievement was throwing a no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays in his 11th major league start, which marked the 12th no-hitter in Angels franchise history. Detmers' final appearance for the Angels was on July 28, where he allowed two earned runs over five innings against the Houston Astros. He is under arbitration control through the 2028 season.
