Angels Fire Manager Kurt Suzuki After Historically Bad Season

The Los Angeles Angels have parted ways with manager Kurt Suzuki after a single season that resulted in a franchise-record 62-100 win-loss record. This marks the end of Suzuki's tenure after what is being described as a historically bad season for the organization.

The Angels' .383 winning percentage this past season is the worst in the team's 66-year history. Suzuki, who previously played two seasons for the Angels, has reportedly been offered a role as a special assistant with the organization, though his acceptance of the position remains uncertain.

The managerial vacancy opens the door for a potential return of Albert Pujols, who was a finalist for the position before Suzuki was hired. Pujols, a former Angels player for 10 seasons, also managed the Dominican Republic in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

This change in management comes as the Angels are undergoing other significant transitions. Longtime owner Arte Moreno recently sold the team to Rams owner Stan Kroenke, following years of fan dissatisfaction and protests.

Los Angeles Angels manager Kurt Suzuki speaks during a news conference after an announcement that the team would be sold, Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, in Anaheim, Calif. St. Louis Cardinals great Albert Pujols serves as a commentator for Netflix on the field before the start of the MLB All-Star Home Run Derby, July 13, 2026.
