Angellica Bell Faced Financial Hardship, Nearly Lost Home After CBBC Stint

Television presenter Angellica Bell has disclosed that she faced severe financial difficulties, to the point of almost losing her home, after experiencing a decline in work opportunities following her rise to fame on CBBC. Bell, 50, is widely recognized for her role as a presenter on CBBC between 2000 and 2006.

Prior to her television career, Bell worked various jobs, including a paper round and at McDonald's, before securing her first TV role as a roving reporter for Channel 4's "The Big Breakfast" in the late 1990s. Her breakthrough came in 2000 when she joined CBBC, initially hosting between shows before taking on main presenting duties for programs such as "Xchange," "50/50," and "That's Genius!"

In a recent interview on Hello! magazine's podcast "Second Act," Bell revealed the extent of her financial struggles. "There was a moment where I've nearly had to sell my house... I've been on my knees, but I've been on TV, and people wouldn't know that," she stated. She also reflected on the need to adapt, saying, "When that kicks in. You're like, 'Well, I have to pivot.' I think what women don't give themselves enough credit for is that we are adapting at so many stages of our lives, and it's incredible…"

Bell, who has two children with her husband Michael Underwood, also previously discussed insecurities from her early career. Appearing on the "Spent" podcast, she admitted to feeling compelled to look smaller on television. This led her to purchase an ab-toning machine that used electrical pulses, hoping it would help her achieve a more toned physique. However, she found the device to be ineffective and a poor investment, realizing that traditional exercise and a balanced diet were essential.

She recalled her childhood self as a "little fat chubby child with national health glasses," not believing she was "anything special to look at" and never envisioning a career in television. Bell has since embraced her body and expressed pride in her ability to adapt throughout her career, acknowledging the resilience required in navigating professional challenges.
