Angelina Jolie Sells Los Feliz Mansion Amid 'New Life' Plans and Children Dropping Pitt's Name
The actress has sold her expansive Los Angeles home for $24.75 million as several of her children have legally or informally dropped ex-husband Brad Pitt's surname.
Angelina Jolie has sold her Los Feliz mansion for $24.75 million, a move that coincides with her stated plans for a "new life" as her children increasingly distance themselves from their father, Brad Pitt. The sale of the 11,000-square-foot estate, which was previously owned by Cecil B. DeMille, comes after it was on the market for five months, initially listed in May for nearly $30 million.
Jolie purchased the property in 2017 for approximately $24.5 million, following her split from Pitt. The home, built in 1913, sits on two acres and features six bedrooms and ten bathrooms, with views of the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Observatory. Its amenities include a farmhouse-style kitchen, a library, a tea house, a wine cellar, a fitness studio, and a swimming pool with a pool house.
A source told TMZ that Jolie plans to leave Los Angeles, though a new permanent home has not yet been established. Her future plans include increased global work, with a particular focus on Cambodia, where she also owns a residence.
This potential departure from Los Angeles was foreshadowed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year. Jolie stated, "I grew up in this town. I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they're 18, I'll be able to leave." She expressed a desire for her children to have privacy, peace, and safety, contrasting it with aspects of her upbringing in the area.
The trend of Jolie and Pitt's children distancing themselves from their father's surname has also become prominent. Most recently, their son Maddox, 25, legally dropped "Pitt" from his name, now being officially Maddox Chivan Jolie. This follows the footsteps of their daughter Shiloh, 20, who filed for a name change on her 18th birthday. Other children, including Zahara, 21, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 18, have also informally stopped using their father's surname, with plans for formal legal changes.
A judge granted Maddox's name change on Monday, officially making his name Maddox Chivan Jolie. Zahara has a scheduled hearing for her name change later this month. Shiloh's attorney previously stated that her decision to drop the surname was an "independent and significant decision following painful events."
Jolie and Pitt, who were together for 12 years and married for two, finalized their divorce in December 2024. The former couple remain involved in a legal dispute concerning their shared French winery, Château Miraval. Pitt alleges that Jolie sold her stake to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler without his knowledge, violating a prior agreement.
Brad Pitt has been in a relationship with jewelry designer Ines de Ramon since 2022.
