Angelina Jolie's long-held plan to depart the United States and move on from "bad memories of Brad Pitt" faces an obstacle: her Los Feliz mansion remains on the market.
Jolie's twins, Vivienne and Knox, are set to turn 18 on Sunday, July 12. This milestone was anticipated by the actress as the point at which she could legally relocate with all six of her children, whom she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt. "As soon as they turn 18, she can leave the US with them," a source told the Daily Mail. "She would never leave even one of them behind."
Property Sale Delays Relocation
Despite the impending legal freedom to move, Jolie's ability to leave is hampered by the slow sale of her Los Feliz estate. The property was first listed for close to $30 million in early May, but remains unsold, according to property listings. "Angelina is smart, she knew it would take a while to sell the property even though it is gorgeous and legendary, because the housing market has slowed in Los Angeles, but it still is annoying," a source commented.
Jolie has expressed a desire to move away from Los Angeles and "her memories there with her ex Brad Pitt," viewing it as "time for a new phase in a new city with her children in tow." While the sale of the house is a desired step to "be done with the past," the source noted that Jolie can still depart the country even if the mansion has not sold, as she possesses sufficient financial resources. "She can go anywhere she wants," the source added.
Jolie has previously indicated a desire to settle in Battambang, Cambodia, a place she hopes to unwind. She also plans to maintain a base in New York City, where she has friends and her Atelier Jolie shop.
Property Details and History
The 11,000-square-foot estate, built in 1913 and designed in a Beaux-Arts style, features six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. It was once the residence of famed director Cecil B. DeMille. The two-acre property includes a swimming pool, pool house, guest house, and tea house.
Jolie purchased the estate for $25 million in 2017, following her separation from Pitt, who had a nearby residence at the time. The couple also jointly owned other properties, including a mansion in New Orleans and their French estate, Chateau Miraval, which they bought in 2012.
Family and Past Statements
Jolie and Pitt have six children: Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17. Notably, Maddox, Zahara, and Knox have reportedly dropped "Pitt" from their last names. The couple finalized their divorce settlement in January 2017, agreeing to keep proceedings private.
Jolie first spoke of her desire to leave Los Angeles in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024, stating, "As soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave." She also mentioned that while she grew up in the city, "sometimes this place can be… that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here." Regarding her future location, she expressed a desire to "spend a lot of time in Cambodia."
In a separate statement at the San Sebastián Film Festival in 2025, Jolie commented on her feelings about her home country, saying, "I love my country, but I do not at this time recognize my country."
