Families of Americans killed by immigrants in the country illegally plan to continue confronting Congress until lawmakers address sanctuary city policies and illegal immigration, Angel mom Tammy Nobles stated.
"If you guys don't do anything, it will continue to happen, and we will continue having those meetings, and we'll not be quiet and shut up about our children that were killed by illegal immigrants," Nobles said on "America's Newsroom." "We're not gonna stop, and you're gonna listen to us every single time if you want to or not."
Nobles' remarks followed tearful testimony by fellow Angel mom Jessica Gorman before a House Judiciary subcommittee. Gorman's daughter, 18-year-old Loyola University Chicago freshman Sheridan Gorman, was allegedly killed by an undocumented immigrant after going to the Chicago lakefront with friends. Gorman implored lawmakers to prioritize American citizens over undocumented immigrants.
"I'm just asking you to choose us. We choose you," Gorman pleaded during the hearing. "Why does my child matter less than an illegal immigrant...? Every day, I wake up with unimaginable pain. I wake up in the middle of the night and I think, 'Did my daughter cry for me?' She made it 40 feet... running for her life. Did she cry out for me? She died on that pavement all by herself, lonely, bleeding on that pavement, and I will never, ever rest..."
Nobles shared her own grief and frustration. Her daughter, Kayla Hamilton, was allegedly raped and strangled by a member of MS-13 in 2022. Since her daughter's death, Nobles has advocated for similar families and has testified before Congress, challenging what she described as lawmakers' dismissive attitudes toward policies she believes contribute to such crimes.
"I had been sharing Kayla's story to prevent this from happening, and the Democrats on the panel just say the same thing: 'I'm sorry for your loss' and 'We're tired of being [there].' Well, I'm sure you're tired of being in there. It's going to continue to happen [unless something changes]," Nobles said.
The House hearing focused on sanctuary city policies, which critics argue shield undocumented immigrants from federal law enforcement, potentially leading to crimes. The mothers' testimony highlighted the personal toll of these policies.
Angel Moms are mothers whose children have been killed, with their advocacy often focused on immigration policy and its perceived consequences. The hearing provided a platform for their personal stories and demands for legislative change.
