Aneurin Donald Secures Big Bash League Deal Amidst Player Contract Shifts
England T20 player Aneurin Donald will join the Perth Scorchers in Australia's Big Bash League, while Zak Crawley re-signs with Kent after losing his central contract.
Aneurin Donald has signed a deal with the Perth Scorchers for the upcoming Big Bash League season in Australia, a competition that will also feature Ben Stokes, Jamie Overton, and Chris Jordan. The tournament is scheduled to run from December to January.
Donald, who recently made his T20 debut for England at the age of 29, participated in all three matches against Sri Lanka. While he did not achieve a high score, he demonstrated his ability to hit sixes. His T20 strike rate over the past two years is reportedly second only to India's Vaibhav Sooryavanshi globally. Donald will remain in Australia following England's white-ball tour of the country next month.
During that tour, uncapped players Thomas Rew of Somerset and Eddie Jack of Hampshire are set to make their England debuts. They will travel to Australia for a five-match series after playing limited-overs fixtures for England Lions against a West Indies A side. The Lions squad, to be named on Friday, is expected to include most of the nine players awarded 12-month ECB development contracts this week. However, Yorkshire all-rounder Matthew Revis will be unavailable due to Achilles surgery.
In other player news, opening batsman Zak Crawley has committed to Kent by signing a new deal with the recently promoted county, just days after losing his central contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). This 12-month agreement means Kent will be responsible for Crawley's wages for the first time in six years, as the ECB typically covers the salaries of players on full contracts. Crawley last played an ODI in January and was part of the Ashes squad. England's director of cricket, Rob Key, has indicated that the door remains open for the 64-cap player, though Crawley did not score a century in his 12 County Championship appearances last summer as Kent finished second in Division Two.
