Former England footballer Andy Carroll has told The Sun newspaper that the man who sexually assaulted him in 2021 was TV dance coach Kevin Adams. Carroll, 37, disclosed the assault in his recent autobiography, "Owning It," but did not name his attacker at the time.

Adams, who gained recognition for his appearances on the BBC series "Fame Academy" in 2002, was convicted of the assault in 2023. He was found guilty following a trial in September of that year and subsequently sentenced to 20 months imprisonment in November at Chelmsford Crown Court. Carroll reportedly decided to name Adams after learning his attacker's name was available in public court documents.

Carroll had previously stated that the assault occurred while he was asleep at his home. He reported that the perpetrator was a friend of his former partner who had visited to watch a boxing match. Carroll was playing for his boyhood club, Newcastle United, at the time of the incident. He recounted waking up during the assault and expelling the attacker from his home, later rendering him unconscious when he attempted to re-enter.

In his autobiography, Carroll detailed his internal debate about whether to include the incident, writing that he had avoided his publisher for a significant period. He stated that while it was a difficult subject to discuss, the experience had shaped him into the person he is today. Carroll expressed hope that by sharing his story, he could help at least one other person.

Adams, known for his work as a dancer and dance instructor from the late 1990s onwards, has not publicly commented since Carroll named him as his assailant.
