Andy Carroll details sexual assault by 'celebrity mate' Kevin Adams

Former England and Liverpool footballer Andy Carroll has publicly named Kevin Adams as the 'celebrity mate' who sexually assaulted him, detailing the traumatic experience years after it occurred.

Adams, a dance instructor who appeared on BBC's Fame Academy and Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two, was convicted at Chelmsford Crown Court in 2023 and sentenced to 20 months in prison. Carroll, 37, revealed Adams's name after becoming aware that it was publicly available in court documents.

Carroll shared his story on Piers Morgan Uncensored, stating that the assault had been 'eating me alive inside for so long' and that he would 'never, ever get over that.' He explained that the knowledge of Adams's identity brought a sense of relief, allowing him to feel more supported.

In his new book, Owning It, Carroll recounts the assault, which took place several years ago. He described waking up after drinking to find Adams attempting to sexually assault him. Following the incident, Carroll stated he hit Adams and ordered him out of the house.

Carroll, who now plays for National League South club Dagenham & Redbridge and serves as assistant manager, noted that the experience significantly impacted his time at Newcastle United, contributing to struggles he faced in the background. He expressed that he now feels he has the support he needs, both from those around him and the public.

Adams's defense attempted to claim he was the victim, but the judge dismissed this, stating Adams had presented an 'incredible tale' and had begun to believe his own lies. Adams was placed on the Sex Offender Register and given a restraining order preventing him from entering the village where Carroll resided.
