Andy Burnham Labeled 'Continuity Starmer' Following Policy Leak
A leaked dossier suggests Prime Minister Andy Burnham is adopting policies previously developed for his predecessor, Sir Keir Starmer.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has faced accusations of being a 'continuity Starmer' after a leaked document revealed the adoption of policies conceived during Sir Keir Starmer's tenure. The Prime Minister has reportedly utilized many of the ideas from a 50-page bundle of presentations, strategy documents, and policy submissions intended to maintain Sir Keir's political position.
The revelation, reported by Sky News, has prompted questions about whether the current administration represents a genuine break from the past. The leaked papers contain approximately 50 policy ideas that were circulated within Number 10 and various civil service departments, according to the broadcaster.
Out of these ideas, about 20 were publicly announced by Sir Keir before he resigned in July. Reports indicate that six policies have since been implemented by Burnham, with an additional eight anticipated in the coming weeks. The leaked document also reportedly suggests strategies for rebranding, emphasizing a shift from 'a politics of avoiding risk to a politics of ambitious optimism' that is 'fit for the scale of the challenges.'
Robert Jenrick of Reform commented on the situation via Twitter, stating, 'Andy Burnham really is just Keir Starmer with a TikTok account.' Rachel Millward of the Green Party echoed these sentiments, remarking that Chancellor John Healey had been correct in suggesting this was a 'continuity government with a new leader.'
