Andy Burnham Defends Gogglebox Appearance Amid Criticism

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has defended his appearance on the television program Gogglebox, stating that he "makes no apology" for the decision. His remarks come after criticism from Kemi Badenoch, who expressed surprise that Burnham had the time to participate in the show.

Badenoch, described in notes as a political figure, suggested that the demands of a new job in politics are immense and likened it to "drinking from a fire hose." She stated that even in her previous roles as a junior minister or secretary of state, she never found time for such appearances, questioning how Burnham manages his schedule.

"Gogglebox takes hours to do," Badenoch commented, also noting Burnham's presence "on social media all day." She implied that while she could also engage in similar online activities, it would detract from her ability to perform her governmental duties. She added that she has observed many prime ministers and has never seen one with sufficient time for extensive Gogglebox appearances, social media engagement, and content sharing on platforms like Lad Bible.

Burnham, who is also a prominent politician, has not directly addressed the specifics of Badenoch's comments about time management and other political figures. However, his stance remains that he stands by his decision to appear on Gogglebox. The special episode featuring Burnham aired on Channel 4.
