Andy Burnham has formally taken office as Prime Minister, outlining his administration's initial priorities in his first speech delivered in Downing Street.
Burnham immediately pledged to "end rough sleeping in our country," a commitment that was quickly followed by a No. 10 press release announcing an additional £340 million to be allocated for this task over the next five years.
The new Prime Minister also announced plans for a new 10-year plan for Britain, set to be unveiled later this year. This plan aims to build a new economy by bringing "life's essentials back under public control."
Recognizing the immediate need for relief, Burnham stated that announcements on tackling the cost of living crisis would begin on Tuesday, providing what he described as "breathing space now."
Other proposed changes include reforms to the education system designed to help young people enter the workforce, an initiative to increase the construction of council homes, and a commitment to honor existing defense funding obligations while adhering to the UK's spending and debt regulations.
