Republican Representative Andy Biggs has won the nomination for governor in Arizona, setting up a contest against incumbent Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs. Biggs, a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, secured the GOP nod.

In the November general election, Biggs will face Hobbs, who has acknowledged the race is expected to be competitive. A poll released May 18 by Noble Predictive Insights showed Hobbs leading Biggs 41% to 37%. Hobbs stated she is focused on winning and is not taking any votes for granted, anticipating a close election.

Biggs, who served as chairman of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus from 2019 to 2022, has been a prominent figure in the MAGA movement since Trump's first term. He became a close ally of Trump and openly questioned the legitimacy of the 2020 election results. Biggs celebrated his victory speech by stating, "Let's make this the year that we turn Arizona red again."

Arizona is considered a key state in upcoming elections, with Democrats viewing it as central to their efforts to regain control of the House of Representatives. The Cook Political Report has identified two Arizona districts, the First and Sixth, as likely "toss ups" in the November midterms.
