Andrew and Tristan Tate will remain in jail in Miami as they contest extradition to the United Kingdom to face charges including rape and sex trafficking. US Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis issued a written decision Wednesday stating the brothers should be held in custody during what could be a lengthy legal battle.
In her ruling, Judge Louis stated, “I find that Respondents have failed to meet their burden to demonstrate that they do not present a risk of flight or danger to the community, or that special circumstances warrant their release.”
The influencers, known for their association with the “manosphere,” were arrested on July 18. The arrests followed a request for extradition from UK prosecutors, who have brought new charges against them. The brothers face nearly 60 counts in Britain related to alleged offenses occurring between 2010 and 2017. Additionally, they are subjects of criminal investigations in Romania and the United States.
Andrew Tate, 39, is accused in the UK of multiple counts of rape, human trafficking, assault, and possession of child pornography. His younger brother, Tristan Tate, 38, faces 17 charges in the UK, including rape, sexual exploitation, and sexual assault.
Further complicating their legal situation, Andrew Tate was indicted in Romania on August 30 for alleged offenses including having sex with a minor, trafficking, and money laundering. Romanian prosecutors announced on September 4 that he is accused of recruiting a 15-year-old girl for sexual exploitation.
