Controversial influencers Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan appeared in a federal courtroom in Miami on Monday, marking the commencement of extradition proceedings to the United Kingdom. The brothers are sought by the UK's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to face 38 new charges, including rape and sex trafficking, alleged to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017.

The Tates, who have been held in a Florida jail since their arrest on Saturday, have repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. Their attorney, Joe McBride, stated after the hearing that his clients are innocent and will fight extradition. "They've never done nothing wrong. They shouldn't be extradited for crimes they didn't commit," McBride told reporters, calling the charges "garbage" and a "stitch up job."

McBride compared the legal proceedings against the Tates to those against U.S. President Donald Trump, which he characterized as a "witch hunt," and referred to the extradition attempt as "political kidnapping." He estimated that extradition proceedings could take approximately 60 days.

During the brief court appearance, the brothers wore light brown prison uniforms, were handcuffed, and shackled. They responded "yes your honour" when asked if they understood their rights.

The judge scheduled the brothers' next court hearing for July 27. A final decision on extradition will ultimately rest with the Trump administration. The Tate brothers arrived in Florida in 2025, having previously departed Romania, where they also face similar charges.
