Andre Comeau, Original 'Real World' Cast Member and Musician, Surfaces at 55
The rocker from the inaugural season of MTV's 'The Real World' was recently spotted in Los Angeles, maintaining his signature long hair.
Andre Comeau, who gained early fame as a musician and cast member on the first season of MTV's "The Real World," has been seen at age 55. Comeau, known for his long hair and as the frontman for the indie band Reigndance, was spotted in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles wearing a green t-shirt and frayed denim jeans.
He first rose to prominence in 1992 on "The Real World," a groundbreaking reality television series that documented the lives of seven strangers sharing a common living space. The show provided a platform for Reigndance, allowing the band to perform on air and contributing to Comeau's popularity with viewers.
Comeau's on-screen persona was characterized by his charisma and bohemian lifestyle. He admitted to difficulties with long-term relationships, citing a tendency to feel "tied down" and susceptible to "the wandering eye." His likability was further enhanced by his close relationship with his musician mother and his self-deprecating humor.
After "The Real World," Comeau continued his music career. Reigndance disbanded in 1997, after which he joined a folk group called River Rouge, which dissolved in 2016. He later pursued a solo career, signing with a label that included Megadeth bassist David Ellefson among its owners. He recently released a single titled "Wonderful Ride."
Comeau initially distanced himself from his "Real World" experience, even canceling his cable subscription to avoid seeing himself on television. However, in later years, he adopted a more reflective perspective on his time on the show. He acknowledged "The Real World's" significance as a precursor to the current landscape of reality-based, unscripted entertainment.
"The World has evolved into the reality based, unscripted, instantly-gratified place it is now, it’s easier to look back and see the importance of The Real World, and what we were all a part of," Comeau stated in an interview. "There were times it definitely felt like a counter-active force, but in hindsight, it truly was incredible to be a part of what would become the ground zero of the almost complete evolution and transformation of entertainment as we know it."
