Ana Navarro Reveals Republican Registration is Strategic Move to Oppose MAGA Candidates

Ana Navarro, co-host of "The View" and former political strategist, revealed that her continued registration as a Republican is a strategic decision to oppose MAGA candidates in primary elections. Navarro, 54, made the admission during a broadcast segment when pressed by actor Michael Douglas.

Navarro explained that her reason for staying registered in Florida is to participate in the state's closed primaries. "I want to be able to vote in the primaries and vote against those sons of b[-]***," she stated.

In a prior interview with Entertainment Weekly, Navarro pushed back against accusations of being a "counterfeit conservative" for her voting choices, including for Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. She argued that those who align with Donald Trump's views are not traditional Republicans. "I’m definitely not a Trump Republican," Navarro said. "I still hold on to a lot of the traditional Republican values that frankly I don’t see represented by today’s Republican party."

Navarro, who has been a host on "The View" since 2022, previously worked as a political strategist for figures like John McCain and Jeb Bush. She began to distance herself from the Republican party during Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, citing his rhetoric on Mexican immigrants and the release of the Access Hollywood tape.

"I’m registered in a Republican party that only exists in my mind, in my memory, and in the history books," she told Entertainment Weekly. Navarro described her past role as a "Republican hack," whose job was to repeat party talking points.

Navarro - a fierce critic of Donald Trump - maintained in an interview Entertainment Weekly last week: 'Anybody who espouses the same views as Donald Trump isn’t much of a traditional Republican'

She expressed a desire to vote based on candidates and issues rather than party affiliation, stating that if she lived in a state with open primaries, she would likely register as an independent. "I want to vote for candidates and issues, I want to vote for strategic political reasons," Navarro said. She added that she does not feel like a Democrat and believes in fighting for principles from within the party, stating, "I think that if you’re going to fight for something, you’re better off fighting from the inside than not."
