Ana Navarro: Prince Harry Should Call William Privately to Heal Rift
The View co-host suggests Prince Harry's public appeals are exacerbating the rift with his brother.
Ana Navarro, a co-host on The View, has advised Prince Harry to cease discussing his family grievances publicly and instead contact Prince William directly if he wishes to mend their strained relationship. Navarro questioned the effectiveness of Harry's latest public overtures, following years of public statements, interviews, and documentaries detailing his fractured bond with the future king.
"I think that a lot of the problem has been exacerbated by the fact that it's been played out in public," Navarro stated. "For so much of the dirty laundry has been aired out in public. And surely they have relatives in common, friends in common."
She suggested that Harry could achieve more by communicating privately with William, rather than repeatedly addressing their estrangement through the media. "I just think that if he delivered that message privately right now it might go further than continuing to do it publicly because there's been a breach of trust and there's been a lot of hurt I think on both sides," Navarro added. She criticized the public nature of Harry's complaints about the monarchy, including lucrative media projects that have revealed intimate family disagreements.
Navarro's comments came after Prince Harry, in a recent GQ interview, described repairing his relationship with Prince William as "the most important thing" and admitted to grieving the breakdown of their once-close bond. He also suggested that "some people don't want it to work out."
Other co-hosts on The View offered different perspectives. Sunny Hostin expressed sympathy for Harry, suggesting he may have already attempted private contact with his brother without success. "I suspect he's tried that," Hostin said. She also posited that Harry's public statements might be an effort for his family to hear him, particularly as they have returned to Britain with their children.
Whoopi Goldberg, who reportedly knows Harry personally, shared hope for eventual reconciliation but expressed doubt that the recent interview would aid in mending fences. Alyssa Farah Griffin speculated that King Charles's health might be influencing Harry to prioritize family, recognizing the finite nature of time with loved ones. Sara Haines appealed for reconciliation, invoking the memory of their late mother, Princess Diana, and the unique bond she believed the brothers shared.
The estrangement between the royal siblings has been a prominent subject in headlines for years, notably since the 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. During that interview, Meghan Markle alleged that an unnamed royal had expressed concerns about the skin color of their son Archie before his birth and discussed her struggles with life within the monarchy. Subsequent revelations emerged in the Sussexes' 2022 Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan, and in Harry's 2023 memoir, Spare, in which he detailed personal conflicts with William, including an alleged physical altercation.
