Ana Navarro Explains Why She Remains a Registered Republican

Ana Navarro, a co-host on "The View" and a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, has explained that she remains a registered Republican in Florida primarily to participate in the state's closed primaries. During an appearance on "The View" with guest Michael Douglas, Navarro stated that her motivation is to "vote against those sons of b—-es" in the Republican primaries.

Navarro's continued affiliation with the Republican Party, despite often aligning with more liberal viewpoints and policies discussed on "The View," has drawn criticism from some conservatives. Republican consultant Mary Marslender described Navarro as a "token 'fake Republican'" and accused her of running a "total grift," suggesting Navarro maintains her party registration as a "credential that gets her on news programs" and serves her "business plan" to critique Republicans.

In past discussions, Navarro has identified as an "old-fashioned Republican," articulating beliefs in free trade, strong foreign policy, and a pro-immigration stance. She has also noted similarities between her views and those of Donald Trump. In 2022, when pressed by co-host Sunny Hostin about her Republican identity, Navarro retorted by asking Hostin why she still identified as Catholic, implying that personal affiliations do not require strict adherence to every tenet of a group.

Last month, ABC and "The View" faced scrutiny after Navarro encouraged viewers to support a Democratic candidate in a significant Florida congressional race. Navarro has also previously hosted at the 2024 Democratic National Convention and endorsed Kamala Harris for president in the 2024 election.
