Amy Shark Falls Victim to Online Hoax About Olivia Dean Performance
Australian singer Amy Shark shared her excitement over a fabricated report that Olivia Dean covered her song at Madison Square Garden, leading to online ridicule.
Australian singer Amy Shark recently found herself the subject of online mockery after mistakenly believing that British artist Olivia Dean had performed a cover of Shark's hit song, "I Said Hi," during a concert at Madison Square Garden.
Shark, 40, shared her enthusiasm in a TikTok video, stating that she had heard Dean's performance was official and on the setlist. She then appealed to her fans for any video footage of the alleged cover. "I just want to hear that voice sing one of my songs! So, if anyone was there and has any vision, please get it to me," she said.
However, it soon became apparent that the report was an internet prank and no such performance had occurred. The original tune, "I Said Hi," was released by Shark in 2018 and achieved top-ten status in Australia.
Followers quickly took to social media to point out the error, with many questioning the validity of the claim and expressing disbelief that Dean would cover that particular song. The situation was further compounded when Shark shared a screenshot of a conversation with ChatGPT, which had incorrectly confirmed that Dean had performed her song during her 2026 tour. This led to additional online criticism, with many users mocking Shark for relying on AI for factual information.
Shark's recent public appearances include performing at the NRL Grand Final last month, where she performed a tribute alongside Dave Gleeson and Phil Jamieson. The performance honored former South Sydney Rabbitohs player Jai Arrow, who is battling motor neurone disease, and featured renditions of "You'll Never Walk Alone" and 4 Non Blondes' "What's Up?"
