Albie-Junior Thomas, a nine-year-old amputee, recently met with Catherine, the Princess of Wales, at Windsor Castle to discuss his remarkable achievements in mountaineering.

Born without a fibula in his left leg, Albie-Junior had his foot removed at 15 months old. Despite this, he became the youngest amputee to climb Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, Wales' highest peak, at the age of four. Since then, he and his father, Daniel, have undertaken several climbing challenges, raising thousands of pounds for their local football club.

In August, the duo completed the Three Peaks Challenge, which includes conquering Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Yr Wyddfa, within 22 hours and 30 minutes. Their climb was fueled by ham and cheese sandwiches, sour sweets, and four months of dedicated training.

Daniel described the invitation to Windsor Castle as "unbelievable," noting that he allowed Albie-Junior to lead the experience. "For him it was just like a chat to a lady, you know, just the innocence of it," he said, comparing the interaction to "a mother talking to a son." He characterized the conversation with the Princess as "pleasant" and felt they were treated as "equals."

The Princess of Wales acknowledged their journey on X, stating, "Listening to their experiences of the challenge and their reasons for taking it on was a powerful reminder that recovery is rarely a journey we make alone, and of the importance of the people who walk alongside us along the way."

Despite gaining significant attention on social media, Daniel emphasized his son's continued humility, reminding him that his accomplishments are primarily about "walk[ing] up a few mountains." According to Daniel, Albie-Junior views his adventures as simply "what boys should do. Getting out and having fun," rather than pursuing fame.

The father-son pair are now planning to tackle Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in August of the following year, aiming to gather a group of ten others to join them. Daniel also intends to contact Guinness World Records, as Albie-Junior could become the youngest amputee to summit the mountain. "Yeah I'm determined to get him in it," he added.
