Amber Heard Completes First Half Marathon in Spain
The actress, who relocated to Spain after her defamation trial, shared a celebratory post about completing a 21.1K race.
Amber Heard has marked a personal milestone by completing her first half marathon in Spain, where she has been living a more private life. The actress, 40, shared her accomplishment on Instagram, posting photos of herself celebrating the completion of the 21.1-kilometer race. In one image, she is seen with her arms behind her head, appearing jubilant in athletic wear.
"First half marathon, eskerrik asko Donosti! 21 kilometers in 1:39 min!!" she captioned the post.
Heard, once a prominent Hollywood figure, moved to Madrid in recent years, opting for a quieter existence away from the bustle of Los Angeles. She has focused on solo parenting her daughter Oonagh, who was born in 2021, and her 17-month-old twins, Ocean and Agnes.
Earlier in the month, Heard gave a glimpse into her life in Spain by sharing a photo from a dinner at El Celler de Can Roca, a three-Michelin-star restaurant in Girona. "Now this is my kind of wine list," she commented on a picture of the restaurant's wine selection.
Heard's relocation to Spain followed the conclusion of her widely publicized defamation lawsuit with ex-husband Johnny Depp. After the trial, which concluded in December 2022, she reportedly sought refuge in Majorca before settling in Madrid. A source told People magazine at the time that she wanted to "start fresh" and had "new energy and is focused on things that she loves."
In 2024, reports indicated that Heard had purchased a home in Madrid's Chamartin district. Neighbors have described her as integrated into the community, living a low-profile life and walking her daughter to school. She has also reportedly learned Spanish, a skill evidenced in previous social media posts.
Heard has largely withdrawn from acting since her move, with her last film roles in 2023 not being well-received by critics. She has spoken about the impact of the trial, stating in the documentary "Silenced" that she has "lost [her] ability to speak" and does not "want to use [her] voice anymore."
Heard and Depp were married from 2015 to 2017. The legal battle began when Depp sued Heard for defamation over a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she described experiencing domestic abuse, though she did not name Depp. The Virginia trial concluded with a jury awarding Depp $10.35 million in damages, while Heard was awarded $2 million on her counterclaim. Both parties appealed parts of the verdict, but the case was settled in December 2022. In a statement following the settlement, Heard stated, "I have made no admission. This is not an act of concession."
