Amber Glenn and Harry Shum Jr. Tie for Top Score on "Dancing with the Stars" Week 3, Taylor Hanson Eliminated
Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn accidentally injured her partner in rehearsals but impressed judges with her performance, while Hanson became the latest celebrity eliminated from the competition.
The third week of "Dancing with the Stars" season 35 saw Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn and "Glee" star Harry Shum Jr. tie for the highest score of the night. The competition also marked the elimination of Hanson frontman Taylor Hanson and his professional dance partner Britt Stewart.
Glenn and her partner Pasha Pashkov received straight eights, totaling 24 points, for their foxtrot performance to Toto's "Hold the Line." Despite the strong showing, rehearsals for the routine were not without incident. Glenn accidentally struck Pashkov in the nose with her elbow, causing it to bleed and leaving him feeling light-headed. Glenn was visibly upset by the accident, but the pair's performance on the dance floor showed no lingering effects.
Shum Jr. and his partner Jenna Johnson also earned a score of 24 for their jive to Hall & Oates' "You Make My Dreams Come True." The judges praised their synchronization and athleticism. Their performance tied Glenn's score, placing them at the top of the leaderboard.
Taylor Hanson and Britt Stewart were eliminated after their foxtrot to The Doobie Brothers' "What a Fool Believes." The performance earned them a score of 18, placing them in a three-way tie for the bottom spot with Guillermo Rodriguez and Witney Carson, and Jackson Olson and Emma Slater. Hanson expressed his gratitude for the experience, stating, "This has been everything. This has been incredible."
Other notable performances included Julia Styles and Ezra Sosa, who danced a salsa to Hall & Oates' "I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)" and received a score of 19. Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik performed a quickstep to Hall & Oates' "Maneater," earning a score of 21. Guillermo Rodriguez and Witney Carson danced a foxtrot to Rupert Holmes' "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" and received a score of 15.
The "yacht rock" theme for the evening influenced many of the song choices and performances, with several contestants embracing the classic hits of the 1970s and 1980s.
