Amazon Unveils Redesigned Kindle Lineup, Featuring Compact 6-Inch Model and Innovative Page-Turning Remote
The tech giant introduces updated Paperwhite and Colorsoft models alongside a new compact Kindle and the highly anticipated Kindle Click accessory.
Amazon has launched a comprehensive redesign of its Kindle e-reader family, introducing a more compact 6-inch Kindle, updated Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft models, and a novel Bluetooth page-turning remote called the Kindle Click.
The newly redesigned 6-inch Kindle emphasizes portability with a slimmer profile and a flush-front display. This device, available with 16GB of storage, comes in ube (purple) and graphite (gray). A premium 32GB aluminum version is offered in alpine sky and seaglass green. Amazon states that books will now open 30% faster compared to previous models, and the device boasts up to six weeks of battery life.
A notable addition to the lineup is the Kindle Click, a $35 Bluetooth remote designed for effortless page-turning. This accessory is particularly aimed at readers who may find it inconvenient to manually turn pages, such as those reading under blankets, on treadmills, or with their e-reader propped up. The Kindle Click is compatible with all new Kindle devices and any model released from 2024 onward. It is scheduled for release on October 28.
The Kindle Paperwhite has also received an update, featuring what Amazon describes as its largest display and highest contrast ratio yet. This aims to provide deeper blacks, crisper text, and clearer images in various lighting conditions. The new Paperwhite is waterproof and includes an adjustable warm light, with a battery life of up to 12 weeks. The standard 16GB model in graphite starts at $199.99. The Signature Edition, priced at $249.99, offers 32GB of storage, an aluminum casing, an auto-adjusting front light, and a double-tap page-turning feature. It is available in graphite and seaglass green and is compatible with Amazon's new charging dock.
Amazon's color e-reader, the Kindle Colorsoft, also sees a redesign. Amazon claims the new display provides richer, more paper-like color and improved contrast for both color and black-and-white content. The standard 16GB Colorsoft in graphite begins at $289.99. The Colorsoft Signature Edition, at $319.99, includes 32GB of storage, an aluminum housing, an auto-adjusting front light, double-tap page turning, and charging dock compatibility. It will be available in graphite and fig.
Alongside the device updates, Amazon is introducing a range of accessories. These include a Page-Turn Cover with integrated physical buttons, designed for both the Paperwhite and Colorsoft models. A new charging dock is also planned, intended to hold Signature Edition Kindles upright for convenient charging. Traditional Kindle covers are also being updated with new material options like knit fabric, plant-based leather, and premium pebbled leather, alongside slim magnetic covers for aluminum-cased Kindles.
Preorders for the new Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft are opening on a rolling basis, while the new 6-inch Kindle is available for purchase immediately.
