Amazon Recalls Over 112,000 Bottles of Extra Strength Acetaminophen

Amazon is voluntarily recalling more than 112,000 bottles of its Basic Care Extra Strength Pain Relief acetaminophen due to reports of discolored tablets. The recall, which is ongoing, was announced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The affected products include 14,640 bottles containing 200 caplets, 90,456 bottles containing 500 caplets, and 7,836 bottles containing 1,000 caplets. The FDA noted that the reason for the discoloration has not been identified.

An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the voluntary recall, stating that the company is working in coordination with the manufacturer, Aurohealth, and federal regulators. The affected products were manufactured in India and distributed by Amazon.com Services LLC, which is based in Seattle, Washington.

The FDA did not specify any health risks associated with the discolored tablets or report any injuries connected to the recall. The specific lot numbers involved in the recall have been identified for each bottle size. For 200-count bottles, lot number ACD125040A is affected. For 500-count bottles, the affected lot numbers are ACD124036A, ACD124030A, ACD124042A, ACD124048B, and ACD125010A. For 1,000-count bottles, lot number ACD124048A is affected.

This recall follows a separate, unrelated voluntary recall initiated on September 3 by India-based Inventia Healthcare Ltd. involving 13,567 bottles of 25-milligram chlorthalidone tablets that did not meet dissolution specifications, according to the FDA.
