The deadline to submit a claim for a portion of a $2.5 billion settlement with Amazon is approaching on July 27. The settlement resolves allegations that the company made it difficult for customers to cancel their Prime subscriptions and unintentionally enrolled millions into the paid service.

Amazon agreed to the settlement with the Federal Trade Commission last September. The company is required to cease the challenged practices and pay fines, while also providing relief to an estimated 35 million consumers affected by unwanted Prime enrollments or delayed cancellations. Amazon has denied any wrongdoing, stating in a release that it always follows the law and works to make Prime sign-ups and cancellations clear and simple.

To be eligible for a refund, customers must have been a U.S. Amazon Prime subscriber who was unintentionally enrolled through specific enrollment flows or who attempted to cancel but could not between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025. Amazon will determine if the enrollment was through a challenged flow, which included pages like the universal Amazon Prime decision page, shipping selection page, single page checkout, and the Prime Video enrollment flow. Eligibility also requires that claimants used no more than three Prime benefits, such as Prime Video or Prime Music, within any 12-month period after enrollment.

Eligible customers should have received a notice via email or mail containing a Claim ID and PIN to access the claim form on the settlement website. It is also possible to file a claim without these details. The form requires basic information like name, address, and zip code, and asks users to specify if they were unintentionally enrolled or faced cancellation issues. No documentation is needed to support these claims.

Unlike private settlements, participants cannot opt out of this government-mandated settlement. The compensation for eligible Prime customers will be a refund of their subscription fees, with a maximum payout of $51. Amazon anticipates distributing payments in late 2026.
