Amanda Seyfried Declines Roles With Frequent Sex Scenes, Citing Discomfort
The actress stated that she is no longer comfortable with such scenes, especially after becoming a mother.
Amanda Seyfried has revealed that she has turned down television roles that required extensive filming of sex scenes, stating that she is now “not into” such content. The 40-year-old actress shared her reasoning during a panel discussion at the Hamptons International Film Festival in East Hampton, New York, on October 4.
“I passed on a show where I would have to have sex all the time because of the sex,” Seyfried told moderator Alec Baldwin, according to People. “I don’t wanna do it. I’m uncomfortable with it. I’m not into it right now.”
Seyfried explained that while sex scenes were once a “non-thing” for her, characterized by the opportunity to “make out with a hot person” while being paid, her perspective has shifted. “I have kids now who are paying attention to what I do,” she said.
The actress, who has a 9-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son with her estranged husband Thomas Sadoski, indicated that her feelings about such scenes might differ if the projects were presented at another point in her life. However, currently, she prefers to avoid the experience of being intimate with a stranger on screen.
“As I get older, it gets weirder,” Seyfried commented on the nature of portraying intimacy in acting. “We have to be romantic with people that we’re not romantic with.”
Seyfried has recently been active in her career, appearing in two films, “The Testament of Ann Lee” and “The Housemaid,” as well as the Peacock series “Long Bright River” in the past year. She and Sadoski announced their separation last month after nine years of marriage, confirming in a statement to People that they had been separated for some time and that it had proven to be the right decision for their family.
The couple, who met in 2015 while starring together in the play “The Way We Get By,” also co-starred in the 2017 film “The Last Word.” Seyfried had previously spoken in November 2025 about the challenges of balancing motherhood with her acting career, describing the period as particularly demanding with two children and multiple projects releasing simultaneously.
