Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski's "dynamic shifted" before news of their split broke this week. The actors, who share two children, confirmed they separated after nine years of marriage.
A source close to the couple told the Daily Mail that Sadoski, 50, "was left at home with the kids" for the past few years, leading him to work less and causing a shift in their relationship. The insider claimed Seyfried, 40, became "the worker bee of the family," while Sadoski "was stuck with the young kids on the farm in upstate New York."
The source added that Sadoski "was isolated," noting that it's "not the best feeling for a man, especially for someone like Thomas, who is a very good actor and respected in the theater world and in TV, he had a big career." The insider also mentioned Sadoski's Tony Award win, stating, "He really gave up a lot to be with Amanda."
Seyfried's demanding career was highlighted by her work last year, which included two films, "The Testament of Ann Lee" and "The Housemaid," as well as the TV series "Long Bright River." Due to Seyfried's schedule, the couple, who eloped in 2017 and share daughter Nina, 9, and son Thomas, 5, have allegedly "been more friends than lovers" for the past year.
"They have drifted apart, but the friendship is still there," the insider claimed. "They will always be close because of the children." The source also alleged that the separation occurred at least six months ago, following a "gradual decline" in their relationship. However, they have "kept things very civil and have been geniuses about co-parenting."
Seyfried and Sadoski publicly confirmed their split on Tuesday, stating in a joint statement to People, "We have been separated for a while, and it's proven to be the right move for us and our family unit. We've got each other forever — and it's GOOD."
The pair first met in 2015 while starring in the off-Broadway play "The Way We Get By" and later co-starred in the 2017 film "The Last Word." In November 2025, Seyfried admitted to Us Weekly that balancing her acting career with raising their two children was "really hard," particularly with multiple projects released simultaneously.
