Actress Amanda Peet described an unusual symptom she experienced months before her breast cancer diagnosis in the fall. Peet, 54, told Savannah Guthrie on the “Today” show that while preparing to get dressed, she felt a change in her skin that was not the typical “frozen pea” lump often associated with breast cancer.

She initially sought medical attention for the sensation and underwent an MRI. "I went and I even got an MRI and then they sent me away," Peet recalled. "So I thought I had a clean bill of health, but they were actually watching it."

Approximately six months later, during a routine scan, Peet's doctor informed her that an ultrasound had revealed something concerning. Following further testing, she was diagnosed with lobular cancer, the second most common type of breast cancer. "I’ll never forget that moment," she said.

Peet, known for her roles in "The Whole Nine Yards" and "Your Friends & Neighbors," admitted to having an outdated perception of breast cancer. She explained that doctors gathered genomic and genetic information to determine the best course of treatment, a process she found lengthy and anxiety-inducing.

She advised individuals diagnosed with cancer against excessive internet research to avoid misinformation. Peet noted that having physician relatives provided her with an advantage, allowing her to rely on credible medical advice rather than online sources.

Peet first disclosed her diagnosis in a New Yorker article in March, coinciding with her parents being in hospice care. She later provided an update to Page Six, stating she was "doing great" and had received her first clear, cancer-free scan in mid-January after completing treatment. Peet has two daughters and one son with her husband, David Benioff.
