Alpacas Embark on Annual Mountain Descent for Winter Grazing
Dozens of alpacas were herded down a Swiss mountainside to their winter home as part of a traditional seasonal custom.

Approximately 70 alpacas traversed the Kiental valley in the Bernese Oberland on Tuesday morning as part of the annual "alpabzug" tradition. This custom marks the return of livestock from high mountain pastures to valley farms for the winter months.
The herd, belonging to the Arnold and Toni Luginbuehl family and Uli Lippl, was guided by shepherds down the mountain road. The procession began in the early morning hours, with the animals making their way through the valley as the sun rose over the mountains.
Upon reaching the valley floor, the alpacas were loaded onto a livestock truck to continue their journey to a farm in Aeschi, near Spiez. This farm will serve as their winter quarters after spending the summer grazing in the mountains.
