Alonso Denies Loan Talks for Estevao Amidst Chelsea Uncertainty
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso stated no discussions are underway regarding loaning out young talent Estevao, despite limited game time, while other Premier League managers addressed player availability and team performance.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has dismissed speculation that the club is considering loaning out Brazilian wonderkid Estevao, emphasizing that no such discussions are taking place.
Estevao, who joined Chelsea for a fee that could rise to £55 million, has seen limited opportunities this season. He has been an unused substitute in several matches, including Chelsea's Carabao Cup loss to Liverpool and has made only six late substitute appearances in the Premier League. This lack of playing time has led to questions about Alonso's plan for the promising 19-year-old, and has reportedly attracted the attention of multiple clubs both domestically and abroad.
"No, no, no," Alonso stated when asked about the possibility of a temporary move in the winter window. "No discussions about that. The season is long and there will be moments for everyone. It's a process for the team, for Este, for myself, but I'm sure that in the season, he will have his games, his minutes."
Alonso acknowledged that players desire to be on the pitch and that he is responsible when they don't get enough minutes. However, he stressed that Estevao's training and attitude have been good, and he will be important as the season progresses.
"We are still in October, and he will be important," Alonso added. "It's not about attitude. It's been about the context of games, it's been about the start of the season, and he's a great guy."
In other team news, Maxence Lacroix is sidelined with a hamstring injury for several weeks, while Moises Caicedo and Pep Chavarria are fit to face Manchester United. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez may return sooner than expected, potentially requiring a face mask upon his return.
Meanwhile, Brighton manager Enzo Maresca responded to claims that Manchester City were fortunate in their recent Carabao Cup penalty shootout victory. Maresca, whose side faces Brighton again, stated that while he respects the opponent's opinion, his team also created chances and dealt well with a difficult test.
"It depends on what you see with your eyes. But I respect what he said," Maresca commented. "Probably the reason why it's so difficult to play against them is because they are always front foot, aggressive and their attack is also very good."
Maresca also asserted that no player has a guaranteed place in his starting lineup.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that playmaker James Maddison is available for their upcoming match against Crystal Palace, despite an injury scare during their win against Chelsea. Maddison had limped off in the second half, raising concerns after his recovery from anterior cruciate ligament damage.
"James is available," De Zerbi said. "This week he didn’t work like the other players, but for tomorrow he is available and he is a special player for us. A special player because of the character and he has unique characteristics."
Regarding Liverpool's title prospects, Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola suggested that fans are welcome to dream of a Premier League challenge but cautioned against premature table-gazing. Liverpool are on a five-match winning streak across all competitions, and a victory against Arsenal could narrow the gap at the top.
"For fans, it is good if they have expectations or they think we can win," Iraola said. "It is still October. We have to take one game at a time and I always say the reference is more or less when we’ve played against each other once so halfway through the season. That’s when you can start to look at the standings."
Iraola acknowledged Arsenal as a strong opponent but expressed confidence in his team's ability to compete.
