Actress Allison Janney has received two Emmy nominations this year, recognized for her roles in "The Diplomat" and "Miss You, Love You." Janney is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work on "The Diplomat," where she plays the fictional President of the United States, Grace Pinn. She also received a nomination as part of the cast for "Miss You, Love You."
"I’m very excited about it," Janney told Decider. "Obviously with The Diplomat, I’m thrilled for that nomination and the nominations are all so well deserved by all my cast and Debora [Cahn], the show is just the best."
"The Diplomat" secured a total of six nominations, including nods for Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, Bradley Whitford, and Outstanding Drama Series. Janney expressed her satisfaction with the series, stating, "I’m having the greatest time on it and proud to be playing the president of the United States — a female president of the United States." She also noted her reunion with Bradley Whitford, a former co-star from "The West Wing."
In "Miss You, Love You," Janney portrays a grieving widow. The film, written and directed by Jim Rash, centers on a woman whose absentee son sends his assistant to care for her after her husband's death. Janney shared her gratitude for the film's reception, saying, "Miss You, Love You is a movie that Jim has been trying to get done for a long time, so to finally have it, finally get it made, and finally get a home at HBO and to see the recognition it’s got is just, it’s just just a real honor."
Janney, who has accumulated 16 Emmy nominations and seven wins, will learn if she wins for either role at the Emmy Awards ceremony on September 14.
"The Diplomat" is available for streaming on Netflix, and "Miss You, Love You" is streaming on HBO Max.
