Allen Leads Bills to Victory in Highmark Stadium Opener

Allen set the tone early, connecting with Dalton Kincaid for a 43-yard touchdown and later finding Dawson Knox for a score in the second quarter. He also contributed a rushing touchdown late in the game to seal the win. The Bills maintained a comfortable lead through much of the second half, fending off a comeback attempt by the Lions.
Detroit, who had won their previous game against the New Orleans Saints in overtime, showed resilience. Quarterback Jared Goff connected with offseason acquisition Jahmyr Gibbs for an 11-yard touchdown. The Lions continued to put points on the board in the second half with additional touchdowns from Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta, narrowing the deficit.
However, the Bills offense, with crucial scores from Allen and James Cook, ensured the Lions could only get within 10 points. The final score reflected the Bills' consistent offensive output throughout the game.
Prior to kickoff, both the American and Canadian national anthems were performed. The Canadian anthem was sung by Canadian band Barenaked Ladies, a nod to the team's significant fanbase in neighboring Canada.
Allen, recognized as the NFL's Most Valuable Player for the 2024 season, demonstrated why he is considered one of the league's top quarterbacks, delivering critical plays when needed. The victory marks a successful start for the Bills in their state-of-the-art new home venue.
