The wife of former Kansas City Chiefs player Allen Bailey has spoken out following his death at age 37. Lauren Bailey described her husband as "the most incredible man I have ever met" and her "person," expressing gratitude for their "everlasting passionate love."
"I still can't even say the words out loud," Lauren Bailey wrote on Instagram, thanking those who have offered support. "We are all devastated. My husband was widely loved and will be missed by EVERYONE."
Lauren Bailey reportedly discovered her husband's body in their Florida home on Tuesday. Authorities believe he died of natural causes.
Bailey played eight seasons with the Chiefs after being selected in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He joined the Atlanta Falcons in 2019 and played two seasons before being released in 2021. During his NFL career, Bailey played in 133 regular-season games, recording 22 sacks and 248 combined tackles. He was nicknamed 'Hulk' due to his imposing size.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid commented on the news Wednesday, stating, "Sad news. Our hearts go out to his family. Prayers are with them. Way too young, obviously. One of my favorite players. Great, great kid."
The Chiefs organization released a statement calling Bailey "an excellent teammate, generous man, and kind soul" and expressing their condolences to his family and friends.
After retiring from football, Bailey founded the Allen Bailey Foundation, which aimed to support children through football camps, community events, and digital resources focused on fostering talent and promoting academic readiness.
Former teammates also shared tributes to Bailey. Colin McCarthy, a former college teammate, wrote, "Lost a fellow brother today… prayers to AB family! Love you Big Cuzzo!" Former Chiefs offensive lineman Jeff Allen posted, "Lost a teammate, a friend, a brother. God needed another angel. Rest easy, my brother."
Bailey, a native of Sapelo Island, Georgia, played high school football at McIntosh County Academy before attending the University of Miami. He and Lauren had two children together.
