Prosecutors are urging a judge to detain Daejon Love, who is accused of orchestrating a $1.3 million romance scam, arguing he is a serious flight risk.
Daejon Labrayae Love, 35, and alleged accomplice Taylor Jamie Chan, 18, were arrested earlier this week at an airport in Boise, Idaho, according to the Department of Justice. The criminal complaint, filed in Portland, Oregon, charges Love and Chan with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
According to court documents, Love allegedly posed as a member of the San Francisco 49ers and claimed relationships with NFL players like Tyreek Hill and Antonio Brown to defraud dozens of women he met on dating apps. He also allegedly claimed to be related to Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love.
The scheme, which allegedly began in February 2022, involved Love and Chan creating fake investment opportunities. Love would reportedly initiate contact with women on dating apps, while Chan posed as his financial adviser to gain their trust. They allegedly created fake bank and investment accounts and flaunted falsified gains to victims.
One woman reportedly sent Love $17,200 after meeting him on Tinder in March 2025. He convinced her to invest, but she never received confirmation and Love ceased communication when she inquired about the investments.
Victims also reportedly loaned Love large sums of money, and he allegedly instructed some to take out personal loans with promises of quick repayment. Once victims could no longer provide funds or asked too many questions, Love allegedly blocked them.
Love reportedly used multiple aliases, including Jon Love, Daejon Love, Avril Lyto Love, and Jordan Love. Financial records indicate that Love and Chan received approximately $1.3 million from 26 identified victims, though the FBI believes there are more. None of the identified victims have reported receiving any returns on their investments.
Authorities apprehended Love and Chan at the Boise airport on August 24 as Chan was flying from California to meet Love. Love was reportedly in Idaho to meet new victims.
Following the revelation of the scam, social media users have mocked Love, with some creating AI-generated images, including one posted by 49ers passing game coach Leonard Hankerson.
