Suspected crime boss Daniel Kinahan is slated for extradition to Ireland from Dubai, according to BBC News NI. Kinahan was arrested in April under a warrant issued by Irish courts and has been fighting extradition attempts, but his appeals have been unsuccessful.

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates are expected to sign off on his extradition in the coming weeks, formally commencing the process. Gardaí, the Irish police force, anticipate this will occur swiftly. The return of the suspected gang leader will necessitate a significant security operation involving both the gardaí and the Irish Defence Forces.

The U.S. government imposed sanctions on Kinahan in April 2022, identifying him and other family members as leaders of the Kinahan organized crime cartel. Kinahan also had connections to the sports world through his former boxing management company, MTK Global, which represented over 100 boxers. He has previously been named in court as the head of an international drug cartel and is expected to face prosecution in Ireland for his alleged role in leading an organized crime group.

An extradition agreement is already in place between the UAE and Ireland. This agreement was previously used to extradite Sean McGovern, described as a senior lieutenant in the organized crime group, who was sentenced to 24 years in prison last month for directing criminal organization activities.
