Hamish Alexander Edward Tait, a 35-year-old childcare operator, has been charged with 329 offenses allegedly committed against up to 150 children between 2009 and 2025. The charges span alleged offenses at 62 different centers. If all charges are upheld, Tait could be considered Australia's most prolific child sex offender.

Tait's identity was made public on Monday after a court lifted a temporary non-publication order. He had previously fought to keep his name suppressed, citing safety concerns for himself and his family. Tait promoted his nature-based childcare business, Wild Earthlings Nature Immersion, with advertisements that emphasized a connection to nature and children's learning. One such ad stated, "We believe the two most sacred things are the Earth and our children... we will provide experiences that feed every child's innate yearning to learn and grow." This advertisement was removed from the internet following his arrest.

Police arrested Tait last July. The allegations include intentional sexual touching of a child under ten and numerous aggravated charges for allegedly filming or recording individuals in private without consent. A significant portion of the charges relate to the production of child abuse material, with over two million files seized from Tait's phone and computers allegedly containing child abuse images, including approximately 500,000 unique images.

Parents who engaged Tait's services described him as appearing to be a child advocate, speaking with respect and dignity about children. However, upon learning of the allegations, one mother expressed feelings of "disgust, anger, grief." Another mother noted that revealing Tait's identity could encourage other potential victims to come forward.

Tait, a former student at Sydney's Barker College and a holder of a bachelor of teaching from Charles Sturt University, also worked as an educator at Fit Kidz learning centers. His business, Wild Earthlings, was endorsed by a children's clothing brand last year, which highlighted Tait's experience and belief in nature's role in child development. The police are making public the list of childcare centers where Tait worked, anticipating that more parents may come forward with information.

Tait is expected to appear in court at a later date. The list of childcare facilities where Tait allegedly worked includes Alasan Cottage Preschool, Beaumont Hills OOSH, Fit Kidz Learning Centres in various Sydney suburbs, and Wild Earthlings locations, among others.
