Alison Hammond Undergoes Heart Check-Up After Hospital Visit
The television presenter assured fans she is "fine" after leaving ITV's This Morning midway through a live broadcast.
Alison Hammond, a presenter for ITV's This Morning, was admitted to the hospital for a heart check-up after departing the program during its live broadcast on Friday. Her co-host, Dermot O'Leary, informed viewers that Hammond had "left the programme during its live broadcast, with co-host Dermot O'Leary later telling viewers 'she was feeling a little unwell'."
In a video shared from a hospital bed, Hammond, 51, stated she experienced "a little bit of a palpitation" but emphasized that she was doing well and undergoing tests. "I know you're all worried about me," she said. "Honestly, I am fine. First of all, I'm getting my old ticker checked out."
Hammond explained that she was getting the issue checked "all checked out" but believed she was "OK." She speculated it might have been "just a little panic attack or something like that."
She expressed gratitude for the "lovely messages" received from This Morning viewers and apologized for her abrupt departure. "I'm so sorry I left you," Hammond added. "I would never normally do that. I would never leave a TV show, so you know I wasn't very well. But hopefully I'm going to be all right."
The presenter, who also co-hosts The Great British Bake Off and took over hosting duties for the 2024 season of For the Love of Dogs, joined This Morning as a co-host in 2021. The following year, she was part of the team that received a National Television Award for best daytime program.
Friday's episode of This Morning began at 10:00 BST with Hammond and O'Leary. Hammond departed the show around 11:30 BST during a segment about pets. O'Leary addressed her absence after a break, stating, "Welcome back to This Morning, Alison is feeling a little unwell, so she's just had to duck out. Hopefully she'll be back." He later confirmed she would not be returning for the remainder of the show.
