Ali Larter, star of the series "Landman," has found a significant shift in her summer lifestyle since relocating from Los Angeles to Sun Valley, Idaho, six years ago. Larter told Fox News Digital that her summers now are "simpler" and more family-oriented.

"It's totally different," Larter said. "So we can't really get our kids to hike anymore, they don't want to do that. But I can get them to take a bike ride and then do like a little cold plunge in the river."

Her family's summer activities in Idaho include barbecuing at home, playing with their dogs, and enjoying ice cream outings. The extended daylight hours, with the sun setting around 10 p.m., contribute to a relaxed atmosphere for her children now that school is out.

Larter and her husband, Hayes MacArthur, made the move to Idaho in 2020, initially planning for a temporary stay during the COVID-19 pandemic. "We went for two months thinking that the kids' schools would be reopened in California, and they weren't," she recalled. "And so they were doing online, and the schools there were open."

This pivot allowed their younger daughter to attend kindergarten in Idaho, providing her with a valuable in-person educational experience and enabling the family to connect with other local families through school and community activities like skiing.

Upon returning to Los Angeles for the summer after their extended Idaho stay, Larter noted the numerous demands placed on actors living in the city, such as frequent auditions and required attendance at industry events. While she expressed affection for Los Angeles, the desire for a more family-centric lifestyle became paramount.

"We just didn't want to do that. We wanna be with our children," Larter stated. "And so that's when I think the biggest change was we came back after that summer, and we just made a go for it and said, 'Let's try this and see if it works.'"

Larter, who plays Angela Norris in "Landman," a character she described as a "wildcat," attended the Newport Beach TV Fest where the show was honored. She spoke about her character and her own evolving perspective on life and family priorities.
